Finishing Touches

November 22, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Man! No matter how long I work on something, I still feel like it can improve. That’s the learning part I guess. Anyway…where to start? Last Thursday EP and I tracked lead and bgv vocals, Saturday Brenda and I tracked xylophone at the music building, and yesterday Eric Paslay and EP came to my house to track more bgv’s. We captured some great performances and I can’t wait to mix down these tracks. Speaking of that, I mix on next Monday evening and master on Tuesday morning. This project will be wrapped up by next Friday, December 1st wooohooo! Here are a few pics from our adventures:

I’m not MANLEY…

November 6, 2006 · 5 Comments

In the past couple of weeks, I have been doing little odds and ends on my project to get ready for the final tracking date with Eric on November 16th. Jody and I have also been working on piano and Wurlitzer tracks via the internet. Jody is a real gangster with the keys if you know what I mean…no you don’t do you?

So last weekend I thought I would take the opportunity to prepare for mastering the tunes by getting acquainted with the Manley Labs VariMu Tube Compressor/Limiter. I’ve heard this is a great piece of gear but I wouldn’t know. I spent 3 hours trying to get the lab to work without any formal training and it made me feel dumb as a brick. Still got a lot to learn about troubleshooting. Here is a pic of this beast in all its glory.
