Last Friday I had planned to do percussion overdubs. The percussionist I planned on coming in came down with something and guess who got to do it…ME. I’m not the best percussionist in the world but most of the work was rather simple and I came to the conclusion that I really didn’t want a djembe on “Bedlam and the Fuse” anyway. Really…we setup all the djembe mics and got good tones and then as Darryl and I talked about it we really didn’t feel it added to the momentum of the song. Learning can be great fun and I can definitely say that I’ve grown as an engineer and producer over this semester. I’m not there yet by any means, but as long as I’m getting better then I’m pumped about what I’m doing.
Yesterday(Monday), Darryl and I were back in the studio. We got the honor of recording an actual Hammond B-3 and Leslie speaker cabinet. Dale Brown one of the chief MTSU studio maintenance engineers laid down the phatness. There is definitely no imitation of the B-3. After that, Tyler came in and we tracked all of his electric guitar parts that we had rehearsed a week earlier(look at last post). He did a great job and I’m very pleased with the songs for EP. I can’t wait to get some finished vocals down on them. Here are some pics of our efforts:
