Progress

July 31, 2006 · 2 Comments

I’ve got 2 weeks of school left before Kelsey and I head to Seattle and Vancouver Island for a vacation and I can’t wait to relax. I finished the stereo mixes for both “Isaac” and “Mercy Road” and now starting on the surround mix for “Isaac.” This class(Advanced Digital Audio) has been great. I’ve been able to piece together so much information in such a short period of time. I know I sound geeky, but I have a God-given passion to learn this stuff and to be good at it. Those of you that knew me in college know that it must be an act of God.
On a side note, I have attached my microphone and preamp considerations for the bluegrass project for you “tweek heads” out there who are interested and for my own documentation. The one’s that are highlighted are the one’s I ended up going with.

Bluegrass Session Pictures

July 23, 2006 · 2 Comments

Here are a few pics from the session. Special thanks to Jonathan Galloway for taking the shots and to Darryl Leach for being my second engineer.

After much deliberation, this was the studio setup I used to record the tracks. With the Blumlein pair in the middle of the “gobos”, plywood on the floor, and close mics on all the instruments…I figured we had it covered.

Here is the band jamming it out. Poor Kasey had to stand facing the wall to keep here big bass from bleeding into other microphones.

Here is Jerry helping the band learn the songs and singing scratch vocals from the isoloation booth(looks more like a big refrigerator!).

I’m just making a couple of tweeks before we begin.

Bluegrass Tracking Done

July 19, 2006 · 2 Comments

Last night we, Darryl my second engineer/cohort and myself, tracked everything for “Isaac” and “Mercy Road.” I must admit that I had no idea they were going to be as good as they were. Most of the band had never heard the songs and it only took 3 or 4 takes to get the “keeper” tracks. I was up to 1:30am and it’s starting to take a toll on me at work. I’m young…I can take it! My next post will have more info about the sessions as well as pictures. Yeah, that’s right I said pictures.
